Mahjong Social will be poised to open in Vancouver’s Historic Chinatown in 2017, with the goal of creating a uniquely modern yet traditional Chinese dining and drinking experience for Vancouverites and the strong Tourism sector that have been raving about the local restaurant scene for the past decade.

Mahjong Social is located in Vancouver’s Historic Chinatown in the building at 276 E Pender Street. This newer building is in the heart of Chinatown’s heritage area and most recently housed a very successful and well known Chinese market, owned and operated by the current owner’s parents, specializing in BBQ meat and seafood. Staying true the buildings historical use in food service, Mahjong Social Restaurant will offer a uniquely modern Vancouver Chinese dining experience, drawing from the Vancouver Chinese culture that has been developing as its own unique culture for over 200 years.

With a footprint of approximately 7,500 SQFT of interior space over two floors, the space also features a hidden gem of a rooftop with the goal of creating Chinatown’s first rooftop dining experience called “Shanghai Alley Noodle Shack”. This will be Vancouver’s first Restaurant on a Restaurant. The rooftop patio will have a feel of exclusivity given the garden setting and unique menu offering at the Noodle Shack. The menu offering will be available on the patio only and will have a street style noodle shack menu concept with a noodle Chef, providing a great energy and show piece in the space. We will offer fresh noodle bowls and small plate items along with a full-service bar to round out the experience.

The bar and main dining room will be at street level; this will be the hub of the business for the lunch and dinner meal periods. At the bar guests will be enjoying one of our private label, locally brewed craft beers or a delicious classic cocktail, creating a vintage Chinatown feel and throw back to an earlier era when Chinatown was known for its exciting dining and nightlife scene. The second floor dining room will be perfect to rent out as a private space, and features its own small bar and large screen for guests to enjoy at their event.

The food program will be uniquely Mahjong Social, drawing from traditional Chinese recipes and cooking techniques with modern refinement and cross cultural influences. Vibrant and clear signage, along with a unique offering and great energy, the experience at Mahjong Social will be like none other in the current Vancouver market. The delivery service in the immediate area will be another authentic experience, with well branded motorized rickshaw’s being used as delivery vehicles.

The space will see mixed use seating and dining arrangements, showcasing large Chinese banquet style tables balanced with more intimate areas for a variety of experiences within the same space.
